  Mark Lofthus is economic development director at Dakota Electric Association, managing growth and new investment into the utility’s service area in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro region. Before that, he was employed for 24 years at the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, in business and community development program management. While in state government, he was deeply involved in developing Minnesota’s first data center sales tax incentive, as well as numerous business expansion and attraction projects. During the 1980s, he worked at the Countryside Council in Marshall, Minnesota, participating in the start of the Southwest Minnesota Initiative Foundation and served as a founding board member. Currently he serves as chair of the MN Economic Development Foundation; chair of board for the Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce; and is a member of the Dakota-Scott Workforce Development Board. Mark has a B.A. in economics from the University of Minnesota, and an M.A. in public administration from Minnesota State University, Mankato. In 2009 he received the “Presidents Award” from the Economic Development Association of Minnesota.
