EDAM News

From the President

WOW what an incredible 2014 EDAM/IEDC Spring Conference!! A big thanks goes out to all of the EDAM members who attended our conference. With your help, we set a new attendance record, making it one of the most successful Spring conferences ever.

Highlights included a wonderful presentation by Gov. Mark Dayton, who spoke about Minnesota’s dynamic and growing economy, including a dramatic increase in job growth and new businesses coming to Minnesota. A big thanks also goes out to our EDAM Board, our Professional Development Committee and of course Michael Langley and all of Greater MSP’s staff for the amazing work they did in making this conference a huge successful.
EDAM’s next major events include:

  • July 24: Wayzata Bay Center/Downtown Redevelopment project and Boat Cruise – Come learn about the amazing redevelopment that has occurred in downtown Wayzata and given their City an amazing facelift. You won’t believe the changes! Following the formal program, enjoy a relaxing boat cruise and refreshments on the majestic Lake Minnetonka, and view the changes from the lakeside.
  • August 14: EDAM Summer Networking Event – Cowboy Jack's Downtown Minneapolis.
  • September 18: One-day EDAM conference! EDAM Fall Economic Development Forum – This will truly be one of the highlights of the year for our EDAM members. This very affordable one day conference is jam-packed with wonderful educational programing and networking opportunities. Keynote speakers include St. Cloud Mayor David Kleis and Chris Coborn, CEO and President at Coborn’s Inc. Come learn how Chris was able to grow his corporation into one of the largest and most successful companies in Minnesota.

We will again hold our 2015 Winter Conference at the Marriott NW in Brooklyn Park on January 22-23, and we will be back to Duluth in June for our 2015 EDAM Summer conference. Duluth has been well received by our EDAM members and a wonderful setting for our summer conference.

Lastly, this is an exciting time for EDAM. Striving to never be satisfied with where we are today, EDAM’s Board of Directors recently held a Strategic Planning Session for our Board Members and Committee Chairpersons to look at where EDAM sits today, develop new goals and strategies for our organization, and to see how EDAM’s members can continue to help move Minnesota’s economy forward. From this session, we have developed numerous strategic ideas for EDAM that will continue to improve our Association, making it Minnesota’s “Go To” organization for Economic Development. I am proud to say that EDAM is bigger, better and stronger than ever, and am confident that these new ideas will help EDAM continue to grow and prosper.

I hope to see everyone on July 24 in downtown Wayzata to learn about the innovative projects that EDAM members worked on, and cap off the day with a wonderful Boat Cruise on Lake Minnetonka. As always, please consider getting more involved in EDAM by joining a Committee, including the ever-popular Marketing and Communications Committee. Please email or call me if you want to learn how you can become more involved in EDAM.
