Continuing the Comprehensive Plan Conversation

Metropolitan Council Community Working Committees

It’s time to forget the old ways of community engagement and focus on a new opportunity to put stakeholders to work! What happens after the comprehensive plan is adopted? How can communities sustain the important relationships that were built during this process? This innovative hands-on working committee approach establishes: relationships, trust, ownership, and project buy-in. Stakeholders collaborate to research, develop, and map project ideas, concepts and recommendations. Learn how working committees can prepare your community for continuing the conversation, build and sustain relationships, and a new community foundation. Facilitated by Todd Streeter, Principal of Community Collaboration.

 

Participants will learn about:

  • New innovations in community engagement and how to establish working committees.
  • Multiple ways to engage community members after the comprehensive plan is adopted.
  • The roles of government, residents, business owners, developers, and planners in the successful production of meaningful engagement opportunities.
  • Planning implementation and economic development strategies after the comprehensive plan is adopted.
  • Panel discussion with City officials using this process demonstrate the success of these innovative community engagement strategies.
