This course provides intensive training in the basic concepts, methods and strategies of local economic development. It is designed for those new to the field, as well as those seeking to deepen their knowledge and skills. A diverse and experienced faculty provide a blend of theory and practice during the five-day course.

The course is accredited by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). Graduation from the BEDC fulfills one of the prerequisites for those who wish to pursue the Certified Economic Developer designation (CEcD) through lEDC.

Cost & Scholarships

$500, includes Introduction to Economic Development, published by International Economic Development Council.
A limited number of scholarships are available for Minnesota economic development professionals through the Minnesota Economic Development Foundation. Apply by February 21 and you will be notified by March 16. Apply at

It is important to register for the course when you apply for a scholarship. If you do NOT receive a scholarship, and are unable to attend the course, cancel by April 1 to receive a full refund. Scholarship recipients who pay the full registration fee will receive a refund for the scholarship portion of their payment once they have been awarded.

Register early! The course is limited to 45 participants and filled quickly last year.
Cancellations must be received by Friday, April 10 to receive a refund.  


Monday - Thursday: 8:00 or 8:30 am - 5:00 pm (exact start time varies by day)
