Apple Valley, MN (pop. 56,318) seeks a progressive, professional, and highly collaborative candidate for its next Director of Community Development. The Director of Community Development oversees long range planning, economic development, and code enforcement services. The director supervises a full-time staff of seven, including three planning positions, three positions for code enforcement and a department assistant. The next Community Development Director will have the opportunity to build on the city’s past successes and plan for future opportunities for redevelopment and business attraction.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The current salary range is $118,000 -$157,000 DOQ and is currently under review. The City of Apple Valley offers an excellent and comprehensive benefits package.

Community and Economic Development Department has current vacancies for Economic Development Specialists in Housing Infrastructure and Small Business Development & Growth.
Housing Infrastructure Position: 
To collaborate and identify regional economic development initiatives and align funding opportunities; to partner and implement housing infrastructure and community development county programs such as the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME), and program opportunities that enhance the County’s tax base and improve the quality of life for residents and businesses; to invest in housing, and economic and community development funds through County funding and public-private partnerships; to evaluate project activities for compliance with federal and state regulations covering the expenditure of funds, negotiate contract terms and conditions, provide oversight of projects through completion, manage financial and accounting functions in cooperation with finance staff, and perform related duties as assigned.
 
Small Business Development & Growth Position:
To collaborate and identify regional and equitable (business focused) economic development initiatives and align funding opportunities; to partner and implement business county programs identified in the ECI Plan, and program opportunities that supports the supply and preservation of affordable housing, advance economic competitiveness, enhance the County’s tax base and improve the quality of life for residents and businesses; to evaluate project activities for compliance with federal and state regulations covering the expenditure of funds, negotiate contract terms and conditions, provide oversight of projects through completion, manage financial and accounting functions in cooperation with finance staff, and perform related duties as assigned.
