Entry-level planning position responsible for assisting the community development department in accomplishing general planning and zoning related duties and responsibilities, including (but not limited to) reviewing and processing building and sign permits; processing land use applications such as site development plans, variances, conditional use permits, subdivisions, and others; updating the City Code when necessary; ensuring project compliance with codes and ordinances; conducting comprehensive plan reviews and updates; responding to questions from the public; enforcing City codes and ordinances; and providing written reports and presentations to the City Council, Planning Commission, and other advisory committees. Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday; Days. Exempt (not eligible for overtime compensation). Provides computer and network support outside standard business hours on a limited basis.
Pay Range: $75,675 - $94,592 annually, plus benefits. Starting rate dependent on qualifications.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, urban studies, architecture, geography, environmental studies, or related field; valid driver’s license and good driving record; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications with the ability to learn other applicable programs (i.e., online building permitting review software, etc.); work experience or familiarity with GIS software systems, Pictometry (or similar), property records search and application systems, and related software; demonstrated ability in effective verbal and written communications, with demonstrated effective use of graphics in presentations and communications; and ability to meet physical requirements of the position.
Preferred: Master's degree in planning, urban studies, or related Community Development field; municipal planning or closely related experience; and American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.
