JE Dunn’s Minority Contractor Development Program: Empowering Diverse Businesses for a Stronger Future

JE Dunn's Minority Contractor Development Program

In the construction industry, fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) isn't just a moral imperative—it’s a strategic advantage. JE Dunn Construction exemplifies this philosophy through its Minority Contractor Development (MCD) program, a transformative initiative designed to empower minority- and women-owned businesses (M/WBEs) and weave them into the fabric of the construction industry.

A Legacy of Support and Growth
Established in 2006, the MCD program has been a cornerstone of JE Dunn's commitment to DEI. Over the years, it has trained more than 500 companies across 13 cities, resulting in over $250 million in contracted work. This initiative not only provides essential business education but also opens doors for M/WBEs to collaborate with JE Dunn on significant projects. In the Minneapolis market, the company has graduated over 30 companies with its most recent cohort graduating seven business just this year.

Comprehensive Training for Success
The MCD program offers an eight-month curriculum with sessions covering a wide range of topics, including:

  • Mock bidding and estimating
  •  Project leadership and management
  •  Safety protocols and compliance
  •  Time management and scheduling
  •  Understanding JE Dunn's policies and procedures

Facilitated by JE Dunn's subject matter experts, these classes equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the competitive construction landscape.

Pathway to Partnership
A unique aspect of the MCD program is its emphasis on practical application. Upon successful completion, graduates are added to JE Dunn’s database of approved contractors, making them eligible to bid on projects. This integration into JE Dunn's network provides M/WBEs with invaluable opportunities to showcase their capabilities and expand their business horizons.

Conclusion
JE Dunn Construction's Minority Contractor Development program stands as a testament to the company's unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Through education, mentorship, and strategic partnerships, the MCD program empowers M/WBEs to succeed and thrive, thereby enriching the entire construction industry. As JE Dunn continues to expand this initiative, it paves the way for a more inclusive and robust future in construction.
